Mumbai: The excitement around Nitesh Tiwari’s mega-budget mythological epic Ramayana continues to grow, and now music maestro A. R. Rahman has added even more buzz to the project. Speaking about his collaboration with legendary Hollywood composer Hans Zimmer, Rahman described it as an “epic collaboration” and one of the proudest moments of his career.

The two-part cinematic spectacle, starring Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, is reportedly being made on a massive budget of nearly ₹4000 crore, making it one of the most ambitious films ever produced in Indian cinema. Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, the film has already become a major talking point after the release of its teaser.

In a recent interview, Rahman praised Hans Zimmer’s global influence and said his involvement would help introduce Indian storytelling to international audiences. “His name is definitely going to make many people watch the movie,” Rahman said, adding that Zimmer’s reputation and musical genius could attract viewers from around the world who may not usually watch Indian films.

Rahman also spoke about the creative experience of working with the Oscar-winning composer, calling it a huge honour. He described Zimmer as an artist who “thinks differently” and has inspired generations of musicians through his groundbreaking work in cinema.

The acclaimed composer further revealed that watching the Ramayana trailer in 3D left him stunned. According to Rahman, the scale, visual effects, sound design, and technology used in the film are unlike anything he has seen before, not just in India but globally. He hinted that the film aims to combine Indian mythology with world-class cinematic technology to create an immersive experience for audiences.

Produced by Namit Malhotra and Yash under Prime Focus Studios and Monster Mind Creations, the film also stars Sai Pallavi as Sita and Yash as Ravana. The supporting cast includes Sunny Deol, Lara Dutta and Ravi Dubey.

The makers plan to release Ramayana: Part 1 during Diwali 2026, while the second installment is expected to hit theatres on Diwali 2027. With a massive cast, cutting-edge technology, and now a musical collaboration between AR Rahman and Hans Zimmer, the film is shaping up to be one of the biggest cinematic events India has ever seen.
