In a deeply disturbing case highlighting the painful gaps in Maharashtra’s law enforcement and healthcare response, a minor girl in Beed district endured not just the trauma of rape, but an agonizing 18-hour battle with the system that was supposed to help her.

The incident occurred when the young girl was allegedly raped by her own cousin. According to reports, the accused tied her hands and stuffed a handkerchief in her mouth during the assault, leaving her terrified and helpless.

As soon as the family could, they rushed to the police station to register a complaint. What should have been swift action turned into an all-night ordeal. The family waited for eight long hours at the station before the First Information Report (FIR) was finally lodged at 5 AM.

But their nightmare was far from over.

At 11 AM, the family reached the sub-district hospital hoping for urgent medical examination and care. To their shock, they were told the female gynaecologist was unavailable. What followed was another ten hours of painful waiting, with the family making repeated trips to the hospital, pleading for the doctor’s presence. The required medical examination could only be conducted at 9 PM.

The shocking delay has sparked outrage among locals and the survivor’s family, who feel the system completely abandoned a child in her most vulnerable moment.

This case once again throws light on the critical need for faster response mechanisms in cases of sexual violence, especially involving minors. From immediate FIR registration to round-the-clock availability of medical professionals, the incident has raised serious questions about the ground-level implementation of women and child safety protocols in the state.

While the accused has been named in the FIR, the focus now remains on ensuring the young survivor receives proper care, support, and justice without further trauma.

Stories like these are painful reminders that behind every statistic of crime, there are real human beings fighting not just the accused, but an indifferent system.
